Nová verze 23andMe i pro Čechy!

Rád bych se vrátil ke svému blogu, a k tomu citím, že je zapotřebí přeložit posledni článek z února, abych dostál česko-anglické paritě a mohl jít dál.

Co tedy budeme dohánět?

23andMe konečně ohlásila, že bude převádět zahraniční účty bez zdravotních výsledků - takže Británie, Kanada a Dánsko maji zatím smůlu. (dnes, v říjnu, už je tedy převedeno vše).

Co nám tahle změna přinese? Trochu horší práci s našimi shodami :( To je na té přicházející změně asi nejhorší - nový vzhled a ovládání je směřováno na začátečníky a nenabízí takovou rychlost a důraz na výsledky, jako staré stranky. Navíc veledůležitý chrome plugin 529andYou nepracuje zcela automaticky, což bude při práci s velkým množstvím dat rozhodně chybět. 23andMe mám ze všech stránek nejradši právě kvůli výborným schopnostem pluginu 529andYou, který umožňuje ověřovat triangulační skupiny téměř bez námahy.

Na druhou stranu, máme na co se těšit:

1. Souhlas s pozvánkama, hurá! Mám už asi 4 měsíce zabugovaný účet, neschopný odsouhlasit pozvánku od někoho jiného.
2. Čtení a psaní zpráv! Dvakrát hurá!! Můj účet, asi kvůli velkému množství shod, už neumožňoval čtení nových zpráv. Má omluva všem co mi psaly a nikdy se nedočkali odpovědi. 
3. Schopnost ozvat se anonymním shodám! Konečně se budeme zase schopní ozvat anonymním shodám. Často ani neví, že jsou "anonymní" a nemají žádný problém sdílet.
4. Nová funkcionality In-Common-With - "společné shody". Tohle bude strašně důležitá nová vlastnost, která nám umožní rychle nahlédnout, kdo je s kým příbuzný.
5. A spousta dalších drobnosti, jako například novější informace o můžských haplogrupách.

Rád bych využil téhle příležitosti, a vyslal ještě jednu vlnu pozvánek. Kdo ví jak budou věci vypadat. Jedna věc je jistá - schválené shody zůstavají schválenýma shodama i skrz přesun na nové stránky.
Takže zřejmě schválené shody = dobrá věc :)

Pokud jste náhodou má shoda, moc rád vám pomůžu s lepším porozuměním genetické genealogii - nebo s lepším porozuměním vašim středoevropským, především českým předkům.
I když vás nic z toho nezajímů, moc pomůžete výzkumu našich společných kořenu, pokud odsouhlasíte mou nabídku ke sdílení. Umožní mi to lépe stanovit triangulační skupiny, kusy DNA mě a mých shod z konkrétního společného předka. Sdílení mi umožní vidět jen ten malý kousek DNA, který sdílíme a nenese žádné bezpečnostní riziko.

Také bych rád udělal novou verzi naší série o sdílení. Jak se situace změnila od ledna?

Zajímavé, že všechny ty změny jsou bez jediné pozvánky.

A přesto se nám daři u některých profilů překonat magickou 40% hranice! Paráda.
Přestože je poslední dobou na 23andMe slyšet dost negativních reakci (na facebooku, různých fórech), já můžu směle říct, že počet shoda roste na úplně všech profilech.
A zároveň klesá počet anonýmních shod, často téměř rychlostí světla - když z manželčiného seznamu shod jich ubylo celých 50.

Vychází mi jednoduché pozorováni. Dokud budete své shody pozývat ke sdílení, statistiky budou vypadat pěkně. Budete mít víc a víc bratranců a sestřenic ke zkoumání.

Jak jsou na tom neodsouhlasené pozvánky? Podívejme se:

Šest zabugovaných pozvánek. Snad zůstanou i po přechodu.

A víc než tři a půl tisíce neodsouhlasených shod. Včetně těch nejbližších. Moc doufám, že tahle vlna pozvánek dokáže některé z mých shod zastihnout. Dostat to dolů na 3000 by bylo úžasné ;)

Ja bych se na to nové 23andMe díval s pozitivními emocemi. Čekají nás nové skvělé nástroje. Stejně jako staronová schopnost pozvat ke sdílení anonymní shody.

A v neposlední řadě teď tvrdě (jak jen čas dovolí) makám na rodokmenu, takže napojovat shody bude zase jednodušší. Doufám :D

23andMe move to the New Experience coming!

So 23andMe has finally gotten to transitioning foreign accounts WITHOUT health information - sorry UK, Canada or Denmark.

What will it bring? Worse ability to work with DNA relatives :( That's the biggest bummer, the new interface is more newbie oriented and does not offer as quick and outcome oriented  capabilities as the old one. Also, the 529andYou chrome plugin does not work perfectly (at least yet), that is going to be a big downside. I only like 23andMe most to work with, because of the powerful plugin 529andYou made work with triangulations so effortless.

On the other hand, we have a lot to look for.

1. Accepting invitations, yay! Yes I had my account bugged for maybe 4 months now, unable to accept any invitations from others.
2. Reading and writing messages! Yipeee!! Again, my account, due to it's size, probably, was no longer able to read new messages from people. Sorry everyone! 
3. Contacting Anonymous matches! Finally, we will be able to contact anonymous people again. They often do not know they are anonymous and are perfectly fine with sharing.
4. New In-Common-With functionality. Huge! I am so looking forward to learning where do my anonymous matches fit. And others as well.
5. All other little nice things like updated male haplogroups.

I want to take this opportunity to run one last invitation wave on the old site. Who knows how things will be, and one thing is clear. Any matches you have persist through the transition.
So clearly matches = good :)

If you are my match checking up here, I would love to help you understand genetic genealogy or be able to understand your Central European, or even Czech ancestry better.
Still, if you are not interested in any of that, and can just approve my sharing request, that will help me a bunch in my family research. It will enable me to better define triangulations, portions of my and my matches' DNA coming from a specific ancestor. This will only show me a very small portion of the DNA we share and poses no security risk.

I would also like to do an update to my matches series. Where did we get since January first?

What is important to say, is that this was without any invitation messages being written. Nada.

And we're still breaking the magical 40% accepted on some kits already! Sweet.
Despite the negative sentiment everywhere (facebook, forums), I can still report number of matches growing on ALL of my kits.
WHILE, number of anonymous matches dropping, sometimes at a speed of light - 50 anonymous matches disappearing from my wife's list. WOW.

Simple observation. As long as you keep inviting your relatives to share, you should be good. See more and more cousins to research.

So where are we with unaccepted matches? Let's see:

Hm, 6 bugged invitations. Hope they stay for the TNE.

And over three and half thousands of unaccepted invitations. Including some of the closest ones. I sure hope this invitation round will reach to some of these cousins. Getting down to 3000 would be awesome ;)

So let's look forward to the New Experience with positive attitude. There are some great new features in there. As well as a renewed possibility to connect with anonymous matches.

And last but not least, I am working on my tree hard (as time permits) so I can find a connection for all of these new matches :)

Goals for 2017

First and foremost: Happy New Year! 🎉🎉🎉 May you all have a very successful 2017 with lot of genealogical successes, uncovered DNA cousins and healthy family members.

A new year is a great time for tidying up and starting afresh with new vigor.

So what are the goals I want to achieve? I have already mentioned some of them in my last two blogs, but I will incorporate those into the overall list with order by importance.

1. Have a healthy son introduced into the world. Yay! This is not strictly genealogical, nor strictly genetical, but taking care of my newborn son will be a great experience in 2017. It will take away some of my free time - so excuse in me in times of silence. Importantly, here comes a huge thank you to my wife, for being such an excellent person and mother. Love you, honey 💖
   
2. Improve the family tree. This has subgoals as per the latest 2016 balancing blog.
   
   2.1. Identify 40% of my own overall ancestors up to the 10th generation. This means identifying 818 ancestors of mine (out of 2046). I currently [think I] know 512 of them. This means identifying 306 new ancestors of mine in the new year 2017.
   
   2.2. Identify half of my paternal grandfather's 7th generation. I.e. 64 ancestors. This is an ambitious plan, as I have not reached 64 ancestors on this level for none of my other grandparents. But it is important to aim high.
   
3. Run a Czech series for newbies in genetic genealogy. (This will probably be Czech only - there is a lot of existing English material and maintaining bilinguality costs a lot of time and energy).
   
4. Break one or both of my closest brick walls. One of my paternal grandmother's great-grandfathers is unknown, as well as one of my paternal grandfather's great-grandfathers. Attacking them with autosomal DNA was the goal from the beginning, so identifying one or both of them would be a tremendous achievement.
   
   4.1. This includes a sub-goal of gathering as much relevant samples from those sides of the family as possible.
   
   4.2. Work on recombination map and chromosome ancestral coverage on my paternal side.
   
5. Test my own children. We have agreed with my wife to test the children, so looking into what's the best option and going through with it is one of the topics of 2017.
   
6. Start an "Ancestor of the week" feature - were I blog about one of my ancestors. I expect only a few of these throughout the year
   
7. Keep working with my genetic genealogy matches (this includes 23andMe matches and the relevant goal mentioned in the recent 2016 balancing blog).

I have more on my mind, but let's keep it at 7. I will try to address each and every one of these goals, with the priority going top to bottom.

Balancování - 2016 a shody na 23andMe

Tak nám končí další rok a ja bych ho rád shrnul i z hlediska (genetické) genealogie.
Jako prvním shrnu práci se shodama na 23andMe - jako pokračování našeho seriálu.

Co že to tedy znamená? 23andMe je americká společnost, která poskytuje jednotlivcům možnost nechat se geneticky otestovat. V roce 2014, kdy jsem začínal s výběrem to byla asi nejlepší volba. Proto tam mám stále hodně ze svých genetických dat.
U této společnosti musíme obdržet od každoho našeho DNA příbuzného (naší shody) souhlas. A ty nám otvírají možnost práce s daty.

Než začneme tak bych chtěl zmínit jeden výborný tip, který jsem dostal jako reakci na minulý blog.
Nesmíme zapomenout vysvětlit / zdůraznit, jak můžeme naší shodě pomoct my. Každý totiž přeci jen víc slyší na svůj vlastní prospěch, než na někoho jiného.

Jak si na tom tedy po měsíci stojíme se shodami a souhlasy na 23andMe?
Od listopadu se stala jedna velká změna. Konečně se mi povedlo s 23andMe vyřešit proces propojení výsledků mých rodičů s mým účtem. To velmi pomáhá při práci s daty. Pro jistotu připomenu, že už předtím jsem měl na účtu data 3 svých prarodičů. Ač by se tedy mohla zdát striktně lepší, opak je pravdou. Víc dat zde znamená více poznatků - více shod, více pozvánek na sdílení, více odhalených falešných (IBS) DNA segmentů, ...
Takže od teď budeme v našich přehledech uvádět i mé rodiče.

Zde je tedy stav z 28. prosince porovnávaný s 18. listopadem:

Co to tu máme! Je zřejmé jak moc pomohlo přidání rodičů a pozvání jejich shod (bez jakéhokoliv průvodního dopisu, jen za použití 23andMe zpráv). Krásný pozitivní trend jako dělaný na ukončení 2016 statistik.

Nově jsem zařadil i statistiky o anonymních shodách, protože některé reakce na mé předchozí blogy (i jinde) predikovaly rostoucí trend anonymních shod, který já nikdy nepozoroval.
Naopak, je zřejmé, že i za měsíc je vidět značný pokles anonymních shod, dán jak tím, že někteří anonymové si zakládají veřejné profily, tak tím, že přecházejí na nové stranky 23andMe, kde můžou z funkcí na hledání přúbuzných zcela vypadnout a ze seznamu nám zmizet.
Rád bych ještě časem udělal blog věnující se speciálně anonymním shodám na 23andMe.

Nevýhodou dvou nových vzorků na našem účtu je nový nárůst počtu neodsouhlasených pozvánek:

Podaří se někdy tohle obří číslo (3500 pozvaných shod) značně snížit? Pravděpodobně ne :( Důležité však je, že i přesto, že toto číslo roste, se nám daří zvyšovat celkový počet známých shod, zvyšovat počet odsouhlasených shod, se kterými můžeme pracovat a snižovat počet anonymních shod.

23andMe má právě na svých stránkách chybu, neumožňující odsouhlasení těch 2 pozvánek, co vidíte na obrázku. O chybě nicméně vědí a pracují na jejím odstranění.

Rád bych napsal článek jaké mám cíle pro rok 2017, ale stojí za to zmínit něco i zde:

1. Přesun na nové stránky TNE - nemůžů pro to sice nic udělat, ale pokud se to povede, tak se až zdvojnásobí celkový počet shod a budu schopen využívat Open Sharing - porovnání se shodami bez nutnosti odsouhlasení. To by oboje mělo velmi pomoct s dalším pokrytím genomu triangulačními skupinami.
2. Dostat se u všech přes 40% odsouhlasených shod. A ideálně přes 50% u mně samotného.

To je prozatím vše - přeji jen to dobré v novém roce 2017!

State of the year - 23andMe matches

So here it is, yet another calendar year ending. A great time for balancing!
Let's continue with our 23andMe matches series. Please, allow me to present the end of year numbers.

Let me also mention one great tip I got as a reaction to my blog(s).
Do not forget to explain / stress out how sharing with you can be beneficial to the other party! We are not a world of altruistic beings after all, but everyone has their own agenda and goals.

So where do we stand with our 23andMe matches?
One big change happened on my account since November. Now I have both of my parents as part of this same account. This definitely helps in many aspects of genetic genealogy. To remind you, I already had 3 of my grandparents on the account. One might think that the grandparents supersede parents, but the truth is simply the more the merrier - more matches, more IBS uncovered, ...
From now on, we will start including my parents numbers to the table.

Let me compare against the last blog series from November 18th:

So what can we see here? Wow, what numbers! The effect of adding father and mother's kit and inviting (no letter apart from generic 23andMe message) everyone is much better than a hand prepared message! Such a positive end to 2016 here.

I newly included anonymous numbers, because many people were commenting on them based on the previous instalments of the series. You can clearly see, anonymous people are disappearing - either making themselves public or disappearing altogether after opting out on TNE ("the new experience" of 23andMe).
I will try to create a short article just covering the anonymous shares in a near future.

The disadvantage of the two additional accounts is more unaccepted outgoing invitations overall:

Will I be ever able to dwindle the number down significantly? Unlikely :( I am still clearly increasing my overall amount of matches, increasing my accepted shares and decreasing the amount of anonymous matches. So that's the most important thing.

Also there is a bug, disabling me from accepting the two pending invitations. Aaaargh. 23andMe know about it, though and are trying to fix it...

I want to create a single 2017 goals article, but let me state some bold goals relevant to 23andMe:

1. Transition to the TNE - this will increase number of matches, introduce open sharing, which should both significantly help with number of known triangulation groups...
2. Move over 40% of accepted shares on all accounts. Ideally breaking 50% on my kit.

Práce s DNA shodama na 23andMe - pokračování

  Velké díky všem, kteří souhlasili se sdílením genetických dat. Nedá se říct, že by šlo jednoznačně o výhru, ale v kombinaci s vytvořením materiálu pro blog, lze pokus považovat za úspěch. Navíc určitě budou další hody přibývat v příštích dnech a týdnech.

  Takže 12. listopadu jsme začínali s 2793 neschválenými pozvánkami. Tohle číslo se nám do 19.11. podařilo snížit na:

2718. To není špatné. Bral bych samozřejmě radši 1900, 900 nebo úplně nejlépe 0, ale buďme realisté :D S tím, že na 23andMe nedokážeme využít celou databázi shod se prostě musí člověk smířit.

Tak jak se nám první týden dařilo na jednotlivých účtech? Podívejme se na to:

Nepodařilo se nám úplně dosáhnout cíle 20/20/20/20/40, ale byli jsme docela blízko.

Stejně jako posledně jsou dobrá čísla u mého vlastního kitu výsledkem dvojitého pozývaní. Mé shody pozývam jak na mém vlastním tak na účtu prarodičů a rozdíl je znát (2 maily znamenají častější odpověď než jeden).

Jedna velmi důležitá věc, pro ty kteří to nevědí - když budou vaše shody souhlasit se sdílením genetických informací, budou se vám oběvovat nové shody - a to i takové, které jsou na platformě již dlouho dobu. Za poslední týden sem dostal mezi 0 a 2 zcela novými shodami na každém účtu, ale většině účtů přibylo nových shod víc. Práce se shodami a sdílení genetických informací pomůže zvýšit celkový počet shod v systému..

Nejde jen o to, kolik nových shod jsme získali. Podařilo se mi rovněž získat odsouhlasení vůbec nejbližší shody ze strany mého dědečka z otcovy strany. Pravděpodobně se jedná o "third cousin once removed" - "třetí sestřenici posunutou o generaci". Bohužel se mi nepodařilo s ní navázat kontakt. Zdá se, že shoda je na straně její maminky. Jedná se o krásnou shodu na 5 segmentech, která bude určitě v našem bádaní dlouhodobě užitečná.

Mám rovněž velkou hromadnu nezodpovězených zpráv, které můžou znamenat další odsouhlasené shody, potom co na včechny odepíšu.

Závěrem tedy je, že i pro "Východního" Evropana se dá soustavnou prací přiblížit využití 50% databáze společnosti 23andMe. I přesto, že našincům je zatím uzavřena možnost "Volného sdílení" - "Open Sharing", které umožňuje vidět genetickou shodu i bez sdílení. Při zběžné práci se shodami je normalní využití asi jedné třetiny databáze.
V budoucnu se ke shodám na 23andMe ještě určitě vrátíme.

23andMe matches update

  Thank you so much to all my cousins that accepted. It was not a total win, but I think combined with the blog, the campaign was a success. I am sure we will have more accepts in the coming days and weeks.

  So last week, we started at 2793 outstanding invitations, and we were able to bring it down to

2718. Not too bad. But I would prefer 1900 or 900 or 0 :D

Well, it is, what it is. We'll just have to live with this inconvenience of not tapping into the whole 23andMe DB.

So how did we fare on the individual accounts? Let's see.

We did not quite reach the goal of 20/20/20/20/40, but we did not land too far from it. Additional matches over the next week might close the gap for some of the kits.

Again, my kit here is the effect of double dipping - we invite some of these matches twice (my account as well as the grandparent's account) and it can help.

One interesting thing to note for people not aware of this - getting your matches to accept reveals you new matches that are not recent. In the last week, I got between 0 and 2 new recent matches per account, but most of the kits got a few more new matches in their list. Accepting is good for increasing the amount of visible cousins.

It's not only numbers, I got my closest cousin from paternal's grandfather side to accept. Likely a 3C1R of my father. She did not react to follow-up questions and internet searches/ancestry searches ran dry. But I have a nice 5 segment match I can utilize in the future. 

I still have a large backlog of messages to work through, and I am going for that after finishing this blog. That could yield more accepts as well as more identified common ancestors.

The final conclusion is, that even for a European ("Eastern" one at that), you are able to get close to 50% utilization of the 23andMe database, without Open Sharing taking in the account (none available on the old experience). With some basic work, you're able to get around one third of your cousinship to engage (this was only my second invite wave on my wife's account).

Jdou hudba a matematika ruku v ruce?

  Tohle téma mě moc zajímá. Mám totiž v rodině jak hudebníky, tak matematiky. Občas dokonce v jedné osobě :)

23andMe na základě odpovědí na své dotazníky udělala nový výzkum v téhle oblasti.

Prozkoumávání závislosti znaků na genech v populaci se anglicky říká GWAS - genome-wide association study. Tedy "podívejme se do celého genomu, zda tam nenajdeme asociace".
Vezmeme si tedy spoustu lidí co jim jde muzika, a koukneme se, jestli se nějakým snipem (konkrétní odchylkou písmenka DNA) nepodobají. Totéž s matematiky, a navzájem.

Vypadl například rs6882046 jako snip korelující s hudebních sluchem.
Matematicky nadaní zase měli často rs10555297 a/nebo rs4500960.

Jako úplně nejzajímavější je pak fakt, že vědci z 23andMe našli jak případy, kde hudební a matematické vlohy jdou dohromady, tak takové, kde se naopak bijí. Tohle bezvadně odpovídá mé zkušenosti s oběma světy.

Nové Y-ové haplogroupy na 23andMe

Tenhle týden se nám dostalo nového hezkého update od 23andMe. Máme teď k dispozici Y haploskupiny založené na snipech - alternativních DNA bazích. Bohužel se tahle novinka dostala jen na jejich nové stránky (a tam zatím Evropany nepouštějí).

My se zaměříme na podstatu změny.
Na začátku se Y strom tvořil pomocí písmen a číslic. Pokud jsme měli nějakou haplogrupu, např. R, tak první rozvětvení jsme označili jedničkou, další dvojkou, atd.: R1, R2. Pro další větvení jsme použili písmena - R1a, R1b, a pak zase čísla R1a1, R1a2 atd.
Problém byl v tom, že nalezení nových dělení nám mohlo (a typicky taky dělalo) tyhle větvení přeházet. Čím blíže současnosti, tím víc se vše měnilo a nebylo stabilni.
Proto jsme zavedli definici pomocí snipů - ty označují, která konkrátní mutace k danému větvení vedla. Pokud došlo mutací na pozici L160 k vytvoření nové větve, je jedno jestli je třetí nebo patá. Tohle značení je mnohem stabilnější.

Obnovil údaje na úroveň ledna 2016, pomocí ISOGG stromu.

Nyní tedy každý uvidí, jak vypadá jeho kousek Y linie:

Tohle hlavně zamezí zmatkům. Ani nevíte, kolikrát přišel do našeho FTDNA projektu nebo Facebookové skupiny někdo zcela popletený výsledky z 23andMe.

Rovněž bude mnohem jednodušší pomocí 23andMe výsledků objednat ten správný SNP panel z FTDNA nebo YSeq.

Skvělá práce od Davida, těším se, že o něm neslyšíme naposledy!

New Y haplogroups at 23andMe

What a nice and useful update from 23andMe. We now have SNP-based haplogroup info! As expected, this feature only made it to new experience (yes, as a European, I am still at the old one).

What do we have here?
David Poznik, great Y chromosome researcher, is working hard to bring us some improvements.
He has updated all the results to recent (January 2016) ISOGG phylotree.

Now everyone will have a small image representing his position in the tree:

First and foremost, this will help reduce confusion, as unexperienced users often didn't understand the old notation, it's relation to the new SNP one. (People were coming to my FTDNA project of Facebook group with misunderstandings from 23andMe all the time.)

It will be also easier to jump to SNP panels at FTDNA or YSeq based on this info.

All-in-all great work from David, and I hope to see more from him!

Jak přemluvit shody na 23andMe ke sdílení?

  Pod vlivem svého prvního blogu jsem teď trochu polevil v genetické genealogii a trochu víc (když čas dovolí) se věnuju rodokmenům.
  Za účelem tohoto blogu bych se rád vrátil na svou "domovskou" stránku - 23andMe, kde jsem otestoval nejvíc lidí a zpracoval nejvíc dat.

Mám tam téměř 2800 neodsouhlasených žádostí o sdílení DNA. Ano, DVA TISÍCE, teda spíš tři. Pěkná pruda... Jak pak má člověk dělat nějaké objevy?!

Co chci udělat - obeslat všechny shody, které mohu, žádostí o sdílení. A nakonec chci změřit úspěšnost tohoto pokusu.

Tak jak si na tom se shodama stojí mých 5 nejzajímavějších profilů?

Jak vidíte, nejvíc jsem se věnoval shodám me babičky z mamčiny strany. Na shodách mé ženy jsem nepracoval o nic méně intenzivně, ale sebe a mou ženu jsem testoval až více než rok po prarodičích (a má vlastní čísla jsou důsledkem práce na prarodičích).

Co tak můžeme čekat? Budu rád, pokud se nám podaří získat 20 nových sdílení pro každého prarodiče (a s trochou štěstí 20 pro můj vlastní profil) and snad i 40 pro mou ženu.

Co uděláme? Napíšeme všem jednotný email. Napsat každému zvlášť by bylo skvělé, a zvýšilo naše šance, ale je možné to dělat opravdu jen s nejbližšími shodami. Psát osobní zprávu dvěma tisícum shod by bylo na rok.

Takže co hlavního budeme psát?

1. Kdo jsme - spousta Američanů má obavy, že se je někdo snaží podvést. Ustanovit přátelskou, rodinnou, důvěrnou atmosférou je základ.

2. O co nám jde (proto taky píšu tenhle blog, aby to bylo jasné).

3. Něco o naší rodině - veřejný odkaz na rodokmen, naše genetická data na gedmatch.com, ap.

Podle toho, o koho půjde jen pozměníme odkazy na strom a gedmatch. Aby lidé nemuseli sami hledat babičku ve stromě. Čím víc to můžeme ulehčit, tím lépe.

Tak pojďme do toho. Ozvu se asi za týden se shrnutím, jak se nám tahle kampaň povedla. Je nutné mít na paměti, že už jsme 30-40% shod měli. Pokud bychom začínali, tak je úspěšnost samozřejmě lepší.

Can I get any more people on 23andMe to accept?

So in my first blog, I talked about the need to work on our family trees as the basis of successful genetic genealogy. And I have been doing just that. Working on the trees, studying the parish records and had some success, given the invested time.

For the purpose of this blog, I would like to return to my "home" DNA testing site - 23andMe.

Out there, I have almost 2800 unaccepted requests for DNA sharing. Yes, TWO THOUSAND, or rather close to three. This is frustrating. Very.

I want to do an invitation wave - send messages to my unaccepted matches, urging them share (hello, if you're actually reading the blog). And I want to measure the impact and share it with all of you.

So where do stand we with matches on 5 of my most interesting kits?

What can we realistically expect? I would be happy if we get 20 matches per my grandparents (this could lead to more than 20 for my kit, if we're lucky) and perhaps 40 for my wife.

What will do? Write a common message to everyone.

We will slightly change it when writing to the match of a grandparent/wife, to include their information (tree, gedmatch, ..).

Let's do this and hope for the best. I will try to follow-up in a week with details how successful this campaign was. If you have any ideas, how to improve this approach, I am all ears.

23andMe se rozvádí s MyHeritage, umožní provázat jakýkoliv strom

  Včera byla na nových fórech 23andMe publikována zpráva o konci partnerství s MyHeritage. Stalo se to velmi pravděpodobně proto, že MyHeritage vstupuje na pole genetických shod a grafů populačních směsí (admixture). Ta zajímavější část je, že nám 23andMe umožní uložit do svého profilu cestu na jakoukoliv službu.

To by mělo zvýšit počet lidí, kteří na 23andMe uvádějí své stromy, a to je skvělé! Snad budou lidé často používat služeb, které jsou zadarmo a dostuplné pro všechny, jako WikiTree, FamilySearch nebo Geni. Problém s nejpoužívanější Ancestry je, že neumožňuje hostům vidět stromy platicích zákazníků - na rozdíl od MyHeritage.

Celkově se snad jedná o pozitivní změnu, která bude znamenat více profilů odkazujících na rodokmeny na 23andMe.

23andMe divorcing MyHeritage, will allow linking to other companies

  We got a notice from 23andMe that their partnership with MyHeritage is ending. This is likely due to MyHeritage entering the DNA matching and ancestry admixture space.

More importantly, the community person, Rosie, mentioned that we will have the ability to link any tree to our profile.

In the future, you will be able to post a link to any family tree from another website (including MyHeritage) to your DNA Relatives profile. I’ll let you know when this functionality has been added to DNA Relatives.

This should increase the amount of available trees to some extent, which is great! Hopefully, people will be able to use the free services like WikiTree, FamilySearch or Geni. The most commonly used Ancestry service unfortunately does not let guests view family trees, as far as I know - which is worse than MyHeritage in this respect.

All in all, this should be a positive change meaning more family trees on 23andMe.
